It was called Central Perk but it wasn't a real cafe. They lived in Greenwich Village so it could be based on any of the dozens of cafes in that neighborhood. I'm willing to bet that there's probably a cafe called Central Perk somewhere in the Village now but it wouldn't be the actual one they went to; it would be named after the one on the show. Kind of like Fraiser. He lived in Seattle and the fictitious coffee house he always went to could be any of the hundreds of coffee places there. As another example, there never was a bar called Cheers in Boston before that show but now it's a national chain. |
