Why do you drink coffee in coffee shops?

Question: Why do you drink coffee in coffee shops?

(Posted by: Chocolate on 2010-07-06 05:00:40)

Isn't it a lot cheaper and tastier to drink it at home? Even an instant coffee is a lot better than Starbucks coffee. I tried it once and will never do it again. So, do people who order there have too much money? You could buy a whole can of coffee for the price of just 2 ordered cups.

I avoid Fourbucks. It cracks me up that they also buy supermarket pastries and charge a premium for them.

The same reason people go to bars, and not just guzzle 'Milwaukee's Best' on their sofa.

Not everyone is a barrista, and not everyone likes their coffee the same way. I like mine adulterated with milk and chocolate. I also like my Chai with foamy milk. Normally I do make these at home, but if I'm on the run or in a hurry, or if I just need to get out of my house and enjoy a bit of culture, the extra money is worth it. That being said, I drink real gourmet or house-roasted coffee, so I never go to Starbucks.

Some places are not that expensive, and some places have a whole different taste. Don't knock coffee shops because you didn't like Starbucks. It's like going out to eat at your favorite restaurant. It's cheaper to eat at home, but sometimes you just want to go out. Some places are fun to hang out, be with your friends.

For many people it isn't about the coffee. It's a meeting place, a kind of office, and a social gathering place. All that for $4 and you get a coffee too!

We don't have Starbucks here in Italy, but there are many, many places to go for coffee. I go to one of the pasticerrias in town for a cappuccino & brioche in the morning and an espresso in the afternoon if I'm in town over the weekend. It's a social event as much as for the coffee. Saturdays people are in the piazzas and streets shopping at the Saturday market here and Sundays people go out for a stroll to meet neighbors and friends and talk over events. It doesn't matter that it's cheaper at home; it's how I choose to spend money.

Totally agree with you.

I personally live in the country but work in town. Every once in awhile when I have an appointment in town a couple hours after work, I will stay in town rather than drive home and back again. I usually go to a coffee shop where they have WIFI to wait until my appointment. The cost of a cup of coffee is less than the gas I would use to drive back and forth.

You don't have to drink coffee in a coffee shop. Why don't you look in google for the term "coffeeshop amsterdam ", then you will know that there is NO COFFEE in these coffee shops. Peace brother.....
