Gold Standard – Danielles’s Golden Nugget Pasta
Gold sunsets fill the western skies of the Colorado plains most any evening of the year, as silver rimmed clouds dance across the horizon the gold orb of sunlight slips into oblivion and the skies darken to midnight blue. As I traveled the road from Lamar to Hasty gold spikes of last years corn crops hinted at crops to come, waiting to capture snow and moisture in spring and fields of green winter wheat revealed promise for the coming harvest. A train rumbled along the track some five miles south of the highway, the black ribbon launching its way to the horizon, gathering steam for the uphill run through the Golden Rockies just beyond the sunset.
Geese drifted into view high in the gold rays of fading sunlight. A Golden Eagle graced the sky, soaring above the cold winds, floating on air streams along the paths of greatness. The promise of rest appearing in midnight blue skies sparked with twinkling silver stars, just the kind I used to ply each night before bedtime with wishes and prayers lifted to the heavens.
Dinner and an Interview with Danielle Simone, ACE Writers‘ star reporter, meant more than just marketing. Dinner meant refreshment, by way of Danielle’s Gold Nugget Pasta, rich with red marinara sauce and vegetables harvested from the prairie. The interview meant I had the opportunity to discuss my coming publications and share my dreams of writing.
Lingering in the gold light a minute longer than good manners would recommend, I know the only way for success to happen is to make it so. Scooping up more than my share of the golden light offers financial reward to the group. Selfish motives, perhaps, although more to the point, self-motivated!
The meal was superb. Desert was exquisite. And a visit with the Barn Builders – motivating.
The Gold Standard of Southeastern Colorado often includes financial reward for a job well done, but more often the Gold Nugget of personal accomplishment brings satisfaction, neighborly goodness and benefit to others.
God Bless the prairie and the great values shared across the golden land.
